Then and Now: Couple Recreates Fashionable Styles in Paintings

On the lookout for new inspirations for your daily outfits? Why don't you turn your attention to your favorite paintings, just like what Sabinna and David did for their fun series?

The photographic series “From a Painting” is exactly what it says on the tin, the brainchild of Vienna and London-based couple Sabinna and David, in which the former recreates the outfits worn by the female subjects in paintings both old and new. Sabinna works as a fashion designer and consultant while David is currently finishing his Masters degree in Computer Science, and together they’ve been jointly running the fashion and lifestyle blog Broken Cookies since 2010.

In one of their posts, the couple wrote, “Forget about magazines, blogs, and other common ways to steal ideas for new exciting outfits. Try to copy the look of your favorite painting or an image that you recently saw in an exhibition.” That said, Sabinna and David usually find inspiration from the works of their favorite artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Amedeo Modigliani, Egon Schiele, Nan Lawson, and even a Vogue cover from 1939. They might not be spot on, but the resulting recreations definitely show how imaginative and creative the couple are!

Now, who says magazines, lookbooks, runway shows, and designer collections are the only places where fashion inspirations can be found?
